Former Ghanaian Davis Cup star and current coach at The Cary Leeds Center for Tennis and Learning in New York, US, Michael Nortey, recently conducted an all-girls tennis clinic at the Accra Tennis Club.
The clinic aimed to enhance the skills of young and aspiring tennis players in Accra and surrounding areas, successfully gathering over 50 girls aged between 4 to 12 years. The junior players had the unique opportunity to learn about tennis skills and strategies directly from Coach Nortey. They also received guidance from other notable figures such as Eric Kyei, the President of Accra Social Tennis Club, as well as coaches Eric Tetteh Nartey, Isaac Dapaah, and Victoria Dowuona.
Reflecting on the event, Coach Nortey expressed his delight and surprise at the significant turnout. "After spending a couple of hours with these junior players, I'm totally amazed. I thought I was coming here to see a few girls, but the turnout exceeded my expectations. We must continue supporting these girls in their tennis journey. The potential here is evident," he remarked.
In a generous gesture to further support the budding tennis enthusiasts, Nortey donated tennis gear, including clothes, shoes, and rackets, to Coach Victoria Dowuona for distribution among the young players.
