Michael Nortey Foundation holds Girls' Clinic

Updated: Oct 22, 2023

On Saturday, Michael Nortey, a former Ghana Davis Cup star and humble personality based in the US, hosted an all-girls tennis clinic at the Accra Lawn Tennis Club. Currently a coach at The Cary Leeds Center for Tennis and Learning in New York, Nortey is no stranger to nurturing young talent.

Aimed at enhancing the performance of budding tennis players in Accra and its neighboring areas, the clinic saw a turnout of over 50 girls aged between 4 to 12 years. Under the expert guidance of Coach Michael Nortey, alongside support from Accra Social Tennis Club President Eric Kyei and fellow coaches Eric Tetteh Nartey, Isaac Dapaah, and Victoria Dowuona, the young players were schooled in tennis skills and strategies.

Reflecting on the clinic, Coach Michael shared his amazement at the turnout, saying, "After spending a couple of hours with these junior players, I'm totally amazed. I thought I would see just a few girls, but the turnout surpassed my expectations. We must support and keep a watchful eye on these girls. I'm truly impressed with the number of participants."

In a generous act of support, Michael Nortey also donated tennis attire, shoes, and rackets to Coach Victoria Dowuona, ensuring the young athletes are well-equipped for their tennis journey.
